Smokey Joe's

Smokey Joe's is a retro diner, bar and music and arts venue at 16 Bennington Street in central Cheltenham. It is the fourth generation of a family catering business whose Smokey Joe's name dates back to a 1940s café in Churchdown. The Bennington Street building, a former printing works, was a café and games arcade from the 1980s and reopened as a vintage and retro diner and bar in 2013. Alongside its American-style menu, Smokey Joe's runs a regular programme of live music, comedy and its own Smokey Joe's Jazz Club, hosting leading UK and US touring acts as well as local artists. Recent listings include the Lorne Lofsky and Nigel Price Quartet, a jazz club night with Jean Toussaint, Comedy Huddle and The Fezz. It also hosts the Songs and Stories songwriters' stage and other stages during the Crosstown Traffic festival. The venue is open Thursday to Sunday and is available for private hire for parties and events, including birthdays, children's parties and weddings.
