About this venue

Stord kulturhus was built in 1978 and has status as a regional culture house. It stands in the middle of Leirvik, the main town on Stord in Vestland, is run by Stord municipality, and sets out to be an inclusive and living house for every age group. The building also holds the municipal cinema, the culture school, the library and a swimming hall, and hosts the nynorsk children's and young people's book festival Falturiltu and the local theatre festival. Storsalen on the ground floor is a raked hall of 408 seats, with dressing rooms attached — two make-up cells and a larger work room. Småsalen seats 136, also raked. Both halls carry Sennheiser Mobile Connect assisted hearing, used over the house wifi through the Sennheiser app, with separate cinema and conference modes. Two meeting rooms are let: Tresmyro for 20 and Vikjo for 10. The Kultursenteret in the basement is a function room in three parts — a gathering room with tables and chairs for about 35, a smaller dance room and a kitchen — taking 35 to 40 people. The vestibule is also let. The swimming hall has a 25 x 12.5 m main pool. 2026 hire rates for Storsalen run from 1,575 kr for up to three daytime hours for non-profits to 5,775 kr for evenings and weekends for private and commercial hirers, with ticketed events paying the base rate plus 15 per cent of ticket income above 10,000 kr and a 15-20 kr per ticket fee. House sound and lighting costs 750 kr per performance for non-profits and 1,500 kr for others; a lighting technician is 4,200 kr for up to ten hours; piano tuning 1,500 kr. Småsalen for conferences includes two headset microphones, a handheld and a projector. The house is open weekdays 08:00-22:00, Saturdays 10:00-18:00 and Sundays 14:00-22:00, though it often closes to the public earlier depending on the programme. Its alcohol licence carries a special condition: the licensed area must be closed to under-18s during normal serving hours, so drinks are only served at events marked as being for adults over 18.
