About this venue
Storstuggu is the culture and conference centre of Røros, completed in January 2000 and physically joined to Røros Hotell in the World Heritage mining town. The building is owned by Røros Kultur- og konferansesenter AS, 51 per cent Røros municipality and 49 per cent Røros Hotell AS; the municipality runs all cultural activity and the cinema, and the hotel runs conferences, with Røros Teknikk AS as the in-house technical operator. It serves three roles at once: culture centre for Røros, regional culture house for Røros, Holtålen, Tydal and Os, and conference centre for the hotel. The basic concept was inherited from Nordens Hus in the Faroe Islands, by the same architects, Ola Steen Arkitektkontor.
Falkbergetsalen is the main arena, 465 m² with a 144 m² stage at the same level as the rest of the hall, buildable with stage modules and carrying a well-equipped technical rig. It seats 276 or 314 with the mobile amphitheatre in place, or up to 450 without it depending on the furnishing, and opens onto both Gropa and Peisstuggu through automated glass walls. There is direct vehicle access from the goods yard, so containers can be driven onto the stage and lorries straight into the hall for exhibitions.
Kinosalen is the permanent home of Røros kino: 180 m² with 122 seats in a fixed amphitheatre plus two wheelchair spaces, digitised with 3D capability, and a stage area used for talks, courses and smaller cultural events. Gropa is a smaller room with a fixed amphitheatre for around 100, with blackout curtains, an L-Acoustics PA, wireless and headset microphones, a Panasonic projector and a fixed lighting rig, and it opens onto Falkbergetsalen and the foyer.
Christianus Sextus is a 167 m² conference hall for up to 120, divisible into two halves of about 50 each, equipped with a PA for speech and programme sound, wireless and gooseneck microphones, a Panasonic projector, two ceiling-mounted 40-inch monitors, a touch panel and video-meeting facilities, with access to a ventilation balcony. Kafeen, on the same floor, takes about 50 and has a small kitchen for simple catering. Peisstuggu is the roughly 640 m² foyer and exhibition area with the fireplace room and café, opening into Falkbergetsalen. There are eight group rooms of varying size, all with large HDMI screens and three with fixed videoconferencing, plus five stage dressing rooms that double as small group rooms.
The box office is open weekdays 17:00-20:00; tickets must be collected within a week of booking and are non-refundable. Røros Kultur- og konferansesenter AS is certified as a Miljøfyrtårn (Eco-Lighthouse) business.
