Strømsø bykirke

Strømsø kirke was built in 1665-1667 as a wooden cross church for the growing settlement on the south side of the mouth of the Drammenselva river, and was consecrated on 6 May 1667. Danish governor Daniel Knoff initiated and funded its construction and is buried in the church's crypt. The interior was substantially rebuilt in early-baroque style, then reworked again between 1839 and 1843 by architect Christian Grosch, whose interior and furnishings survive today alongside older items such as the baptismal font and chandeliers. The church holds heritage status as a listed church and today serves as an ordinary parish church, hosting services, concerts, open-church hours, yoga sessions and conversation/counselling services.
