About this venue

Sveateatern is one of Sundsvall municipality's stages and one of the oldest and best preserved cinema buildings of its kind in Sweden. It was built in 1911-1912 in the Stenstaden district to designs by Ragnar Östberg, showed films until 1986 and was converted into a theatre in 1993. It has been a listed building since 1988. Today it is a flexible black box with a small balcony for serving, furnished differently for each event: cafe seating for 120 or room for 250 standing, as well as tiered or cinema-style seating. It hosts children's and school performances, concerts, lectures and more. The venue has a hearing loop, a lift to the balcony and toilets in the foyer, with disabled parking in front of the entrance. Tickets are sold through Entré Sundsvall and organisers book through the municipal Scenservice.
