Teateret

Teateret is a theatre, restaurant and events house in the centre of Kristiansand, operated by Teateret Drift AS. It combines a full performance programme with its own kitchen, serving dishes built on Norwegian vegetables with herbs and spices from further afield. The house occupies the brutalist concrete building designed by architect Hans Paasche Thorne, with a wall relief by Henrik Finne on the Kongens gate façade unveiled in 1976. It was built as the home of Agder Teater, which moved its operations to Kilden teater og konserthus in 2012. The building was sold in 2016, and Kristiansand Næringsselskap together with Glastad Gruppen brought it back into use; Teateret reopened its doors on 1 September 2018. Seven rooms are let and programmed. Hovedscenen is "a room for big moments", built for performances that set the building's history against contemporary expression, and seats 462. The Hovedscenegulvet — the main stage floor — is a large room with historic character used for everything from banquets to concerts. Biscenen takes concerts, theatre, conferences, lectures and company events. Intimscenen is the low-threshold room for comedy, music and storytelling. The Black Box is kept for creative productions and events with their own character. Foajeen is described as the house's social heart, used for parties, concerts and late-night events, and the Chambre Séparée is an intimate room for private groups, dinners and meetings. The programme is broad: stand-up and comedy, children's theatre on Sundays, improv Thursdays, lectures and talks, beer tastings, speed dating, wellness seminars, and Friday afterwork with DJs. The Punkt festival is among the events staged here. Saturdays carry the Universitetet lecture series.
