About this venue
The Blackpool Tower Circus has presented a resident circus season at the foot of the Tower on the Promenade every year since it opened on 14 May 1894, making it the oldest permanent circus arena in the world. The current auditorium, completed in 1900 to a design by theatre architect Frank Matcham, seats an audience of 1,300 around a 110 x 110 foot ring.
The arena is one of only four circus rings in the world with a hydraulic sinking ring, lowering by 1.37 metres so the floor can be flooded for a water finale. The venue is also available for private and corporate hire, including award ceremonies and presentations, alongside its regular circus season.
