About this venue
The Dolman Theatre was purpose-built in 1967 for the Newport Playgoers Society, an amateur theatrical company founded in 1924, and named after Arthur Dolman, a leading member whose negotiations secured the new building. It remains owned and run by the Society as a registered charity. The 400-seat main auditorium has a 40ft by 32ft stage with an adjustable proscenium arch, a mechanically-raised orchestra pit and a counterweighted flying system. A separate flexible studio, three rehearsal rooms and a foyer with a 1967 mural by German artist Hans Feibusch complete the venue, which is also hired out for meetings, training and community events.
