About this venue

Blackpool Grand Theatre opened on 23 July 1894, designed by the leading theatre architect of the day, Frank Matcham, whose cantilever design removed the need for supporting pillars and gave unobstructed sightlines throughout the auditorium. It is a Grade II* listed building, seats around 1,100, and closed for a period before reopening in 1981 following a campaign to save it from demolition. Since 2006 it has also traded as the National Theatre of Variety, and the theatre is Blackpool, Lancashire's home for touring drama, comedy, dance and variety.
