About this venue
The Lowry is a landmark arts centre at Pier 8 on Salford Quays, opened to the public in April 2000 and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II that October. It is a registered charity committed to using the visual and performing arts to enrich people's lives, and programmes theatre, opera, musicals, dance, music, comedy and visual art.
The building contains three performance spaces. The Lyric Theatre seats up to 1,730 across three tiers and has one of the largest stages in the UK outside the West End; the Quays Theatre is a mid-scale house seating up to 440 with flat-floor and catwalk configurations; and the Studio is a flexible space, divisible by partition walls, with tiered seating for 150. The Andrew Law Galleries house the art collection and are also hired out, alongside event spaces including Compass, Pier Eight and the Hexagon.
