About this venue

The Market Theatre on Market Street, Ledbury, opened in January 2000 on the site of the old Market Theatre, a temporary church hall from 1910 that Ledbury Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS) had used for more than 40 years. It is owned and run for the community by LADS, a registered charity formed in 1938 and a member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain. The building won Ledbury's design award for 1999. The auditorium has 128 seats in eight raked rows and a stage 11.5 m wide and 7 m deep, with a 7.9 m proscenium. There is a flexible foyer with a small bar, a balcony that can serve as a musicians' gallery, and dressing rooms. The building has level wheelchair access to the foyer, auditorium, stage and backstage, and a hearing loop. The programme mixes LADS productions and youth theatre with touring theatre, music, live screenings and a film club. Recent and upcoming music includes gypsy jazz and big band, folk from Peter Knight's Gigspanner Trio and Heidi Talbot, tribute shows to Simon and Garfunkel and ABBA, and a pocket opera. The whole building, or just the auditorium or foyer, can be hired for concerts, talks, meetings, workshops and private events. Public events are considered for the theatre's curated seasonal programme.
