About this venue
The Museum of Making occupies Derby's Silk Mill, on the site widely regarded as the world's first factory and at the gateway to the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Grade II listed 18th-century building on the banks of the River Derwent is run by Derby Museums and displays 300 years of making.
Its venue hire team lets several spaces for conferences, meetings, networking events, award evenings and charity galas. The Italian Mill is the largest, arranged theatre-style or cabaret, with twin screens and projectors, handheld and headset microphones, Bluetooth speakers and a copper-backed bar staffed during events; it has its own entrance and facilities. The Civic Hall houses the main entrance and the River Kitchen café during museum hours, with a Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine suspended overhead, and is used for breakfast meetings and arrival drinks. The River Room and the Loom Room are meeting rooms on the first and second floors with screens and video conferencing, reached by lift, and The Prospect and The Loft are also offered. Catering comes from the on-site River Kitchen, and day delegate rates are available.
