About this venue
Founded in Ulm in 1998 and supported by the City of Ulm, Theater Ulüm describes itself as the first and so far only professional Turkish theatre in southern Germany. It has its own venue in the Donaubastion on Schillerstraße, next to the ROXY, and also tours to other towns. Most plays are in Turkish and some in German, with a programme booklet helping German-speaking audiences follow.
Its plays are musical comedies that make fun of fears and prejudices around integration, bilingualism, the generation gap, dual citizenship, male-dominated society, women's rights and child-rearing, often through the fictional Dasch family. Recent German-language productions include "Sind Sie Ausländer? Nein, ich bin Türke" and "Oh Gott, die Türken integrieren sich!", with performances at the home stage through spring 2026.
