About this venue
Founded in 1988 by the Ulm writer Adi Hübel, the Theaterwerkstatt Ulm describes itself as passionate amateur theatre with professional ambitions and the only amateur theatre in the region with a regular performance schedule. It moved into the Donaubastion more than 20 years ago, has been a registered association since 2008, is supported by the City of Ulm and is a member of the Landesverband Amateurtheater Baden-Württemberg. About 50 active members run it on a purely voluntary basis.
Each season brings two in-house productions and numerous guest performances, around 40 events a year, in its theatre in the Obere Donaubastion beside the ROXY. The autumn 2026 season pairs "Ein Geschenk der Götter" by Oliver Haffner with Albert Camus's "Caligula", and the 2027 guest series includes improvisational theatre and music-and-word evenings.
