About this venue
Tønsberg domkirke sits on Storgaten in the middle of Tønsberg. It was built in 1858 in brick and stone to a long-church plan by Christian Heinrich Grosch, the architect who also drew Tromsø domkirke, and it is a listed building. Kirkebyggdatabasen gives its approved capacity as 550.
The parish runs an extensive church-music programme, and the cathedral is used for concerts year-round rather than only for services. Its best-known series is the Domkirkefestivalen, a run of Advent concerts, and there are organ matinées through the year. The cathedral's own ensembles — Tønsberg domkor and the children's and youth choirs — perform here regularly, and the parish keeps a concert calendar for the churches in Tønsberg.
Wheelchair access is via the side entrance, with wheelchair spaces arranged on request and a working hearing loop in the church; the accessible toilet is in the parish service building next to the cathedral. There is no parking at the church itself. The parish office is a few doors away at Storgaten 52.
