About this venue
Amgueddfa Ceredigion Museum occupies the Coliseum on Terrace Road, Aberystwyth, near the seafront. The building opened in 1905 as the Coliseum Theatre and hosted music hall, plays, early films, political meetings and concerts before becoming a cinema in 1932; today its three-level auditorium holds the county's collections of art and heritage objects. The museum holds a full entertainment licence and hires its spaces for parties, events, conferences and weddings: ceremonies of up to 100 guests can be held centre stage in the Coliseum Auditorium, and the Gallery, the temporary exhibition space overlooking Cardigan Bay and North Beach, seats up to 50. Catering comes from the in-house Coliseum Coffee House and there is a licensed bar. There is a lift to all floors and accessible toilets on the ground floor. Note: the museum is currently closed for essential repairs (a new roof, ceiling repair and replastering); the Coliseum Coffee House, Tourist Information Centre and shop stay open during the works.
