Nye Hjorten Teater
A modern theatre in central Trondheim, next to the Britannia Hotel, named for the Hjorten revue and variety theatre that ran at Ila from 1867 to 1947. Hovedscenen seats 607 and Lille Hjorten takes up to 80, with the Teaterbaren and the Olgas restaurant in the building.

About this venue
Nye Hjorten Teater sits in the middle of Trondheim, between Dronningens gate, Nordre gate and Thomas Angells gate and next to the Britannia Hotel. Its name is a tribute: the original Hjorten revy- og varietéteater opened at Ila in 1867 and drew audiences from every part of society to see the best of what was moving on the European scene, helped after December 1901 by the new electric tram between Ilevollen and Buran. Entertainment there stopped in 1947, the building decayed, and it was demolished in 1961 for an old people's home.
The present house calls itself one of northern Europe's most modern theatre buildings and programmes musicals, plays and family shows — We Will Rock You, Doktor Proktors prompepulver, Nøtteknekkeren — under the line "Lørdag hele uka".
Hovedscenen seats 607, 364 in the stalls and 243 on the balcony, with advanced stage technology, and takes large events and conferences as well as performances. Lille Hjorten is the small room: 80 cinema-style, 70 classroom, 34 in a horseshoe or 32 for a banquet, with a projector and screen, handheld and lavalier microphones on their own sound system, and a lectern.
Teaterbaren is a large bar the house rates among the best in Trondheim, and the Olgas restaurant is on the first floor, serving soups, salads, sandwiches and pasta; event catering comes from Olgas or the Britannia Hotel kitchen. There are gift cards, season passes, student prices and pre-ordering for the interval. No hire prices are published.
