The Charles Dickens Museum occupies 48-49 Doughty Street in Bloomsbury, the Georgian terraced house Dickens rented from 1837 to 1839 and where he finished The Pickwick Papers and wrote Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby. It is the only surviving London home of his open to the public, and holds the world's largest Dickens collection.
Beyond the period rooms and changing exhibitions, the museum runs a public programme of talks and performances — some staged in the drawing room at No. 49 — and hires out its rooms. The Boardroom at No. 49 takes up to 25 guests, and the whole house over five floors can be taken for exclusive-use receptions, private dining and out-of-hours tours. There is a shop and the Artful Tea Room on site.
