A Welsh Coal Mining Experience

A Welsh Coal Mining Experience is the visitor attraction at Rhondda Heritage Park, on the site of the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery in Trehafod. Opened in 1989 after restoration of the pithead buildings, it is run by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and tells the story of the mining communities of the Rhondda Valleys through free interactive exhibitions and the Black Gold Experience, a 40-minute guided descent to the coalface led by a former colliery worker. There is an on-site cafe and gift shop.
