About this venue
The Akademietheater Regensburg shares its building on Kreuzgasse with the Bavarian Academy of Dramatic Arts (Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Bayern), in the city's theatre district alongside the Staatstheater, the Turmtheater, the Statt-Theater and the Figurentheater. Productions cast experienced professionals, the academy's acting, directing and theatre-education students, or mixed ensembles, and the repertoire runs from spoken drama to revue and musical theatre, comedy, dialect plays and children's and youth theatre, as well as chanson evenings and graduation showcases.
The main house, the Theater im alten Malsaal, is equipped to a high technical standard and seats up to 115 in rows, or can be set with bistro tables; drinks can usually be taken into the auditorium. Smaller stages in the building include the Studio Stage on the third floor and the Rehearsal Stage on the second floor (about 30 each), the Academy Canteen (about 25) and the Basement Theater (about 20). The theatre bar opens 30 minutes before performances, in intervals and for an hour afterwards, with a summer terrace over the old town's rooftops. The building is barrier-free or low-barrier except the basement, with a separate step-free entrance through the courtyard to the lift, an accessible toilet on the fourth floor and an induction loop in the main theatre.
