About this venue

The Altes Pumpwerk on Salzburger Straße pumped Bremen's wastewater out of the city from 1915 until it was shut down in 1995. The largely original building is now a listed technical monument and a museum run by the volunteer association Altes Pumpwerk e.V., which offers guided tours of the machine hall and the underground sewer on selected Sundays with free entry. The preserved pump hall also serves as a stage: the association programmes concerts, theatre, cabaret and readings there beside the old machinery, with room for up to 130 spectators. Listings on the venue's own site for autumn 2026 include a jazz evening, readings by a Findorff book initiative and a comedy-and-music show. Apart from the basement, the building is step-free, and free parking is available on site.
