About this venue
The CassallaTheater occupies the former auditorium of the "Movie", Kassel's first art-house cinema, in the same building on Jordanstraße as the Theaterstübchen club. Since 1988 the city's two oldest amateur theatre associations, the Wehlheider Hoftheater (founded 1911) and kleine bühne 70 (founded 1970), have performed in the 99-seat hall, giving up to 75 performances a year. The theatre took several names with the changing operators of the neighbouring pub until the two associations chose the permanent name CassallaTheater in 2004, with help from Kassel residents through the local newspaper.
The programme includes plays for children and young people performed by young actors, adult productions from comedies and crime plays to musicals, a Christmas family play and an annual Grimm fairy tale. Tickets are sold by the companies, at the Kassel tourist information and at the door.
