About this venue
Colosseum Berlin occupies a cinema complex built around tram halls from 1894 that originally housed more than 360 horses. The Colosseum cinema opened in 1924 with 1,200 seats (today's Saal 1) and was reopened in 1997 as the Cinemaxx Colosseum with a reconstructed facade and neon lettering. The cinema operator went insolvent in 2020, and in 2023 the Colosseum Event Berlin GmbH converted the complex into a multifunctional event space. A cinema, Colosseum Kino, continues to run in the building.
The operator describes ten cinema halls with 2,600 seats, an 18 m high atrium and about 10,000 square metres of floor space. Besides the halls it offers the Wagenhalle (about 1,600 square metres, 18 m ceiling height, freely seatable) and the Galerie on the second floor (about 800 square metres, separate entrance, lift, two outdoor areas). The cinema halls can also be hired without seating. The 2026 programme on the venue's site mixes concerts, tours, readings, talks and a poetry slam. Access is via Gleimstrasse 31-33.
