About this venue
The Criterion Theatre opened in 1874 and is one of the very few London theatres built almost entirely below ground - the auditorium sits beneath Piccadilly Circus, reached by descending staircases from the foyer. It seats 593 across Stalls, Dress Circle and Upper Circle.
The theatre is run by an independent charitable trust and hosts plays, musicals and comedy.
