About this venue
FITZ Das Theater animierter Formen (formerly FITZ Zentrum für Figurentheater) in the Tagblatt-Turm area is one of Europe's leading venues for contemporary puppet and figure theatre. It opened in 1983 as the first permanent venue in Germany dedicated to the art form, in the same year that the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts set up its puppetry degree, laying the foundation for the city's lively figure-theatre scene.
Each year FITZ presents about 280 performances of some 40 productions by regional, German and international companies, split between the evening programme "FITZ am Abend" and the children's programme "FITZ für Kids". About two thirds come from artists of the region, many of them graduates of the Stuttgart puppetry course, and FITZ also supports promising new productions, which have won awards and festival invitations at home and abroad.
