About this venue

Gamle Aker kirke was built in the middle of the 1100s and is the oldest building standing in Oslo, a well-preserved example of a medieval three-nave basilica. It sits on Akersbakken above the city centre and belongs to St. Hanshaugen parish. Alongside services, weddings, baptisms and funerals, the church keeps a full concert programme — spring and Easter concerts, an advent and Christmas season, and appearances in the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, with the resident Gamle Aker kantori choir among the regular performers.
