About this venue
Gloucester Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for more than 1,300 years and contains the tomb of a king. It is a working cathedral with daily services, and it is also a visitor attraction with guided tours, a café and a gift shop. It won Cultural Venue of the Year at the Gloucestershire Lifestyle and Community Awards 2026.
The cathedral is a major concert venue. The Nave has an acoustic suited to classical, choral and folk music, seats up to 700, and hosts the Three Choirs Festival, Cheltenham Music Festival and Gloucester Choral Society. The Lady Chapel, Quire and Chapter House are used for smaller recitals and chamber music. Its own programme includes candlelight concerts and a Year of Music in 2026.
The cathedral's spaces are hired for concerts, award ceremonies and gala dinners for up to 300 diners, conferences, corporate hospitality, graduations, exhibitions and photoshoots. Its film credits include Harry Potter, Sherlock and Doctor Who. Income from hire helps keep the cathedral open.
