About this venue
Deptford and Millfield Community Centre occupies Havelock Towers at 270 Hylton Road, Sunderland. The building was put up in 1886 as a boys' home taking orphans, young offenders and children of the neighbouring workhouse, later housed unmarried mothers, and was extended over the old workhouse yard when it became a community centre.
The centre has a large hall with a stage, a full kitchen and several smaller rooms, and is used for community activities and hires. Its best-known public events are overnight paranormal investigations and ghost hunts marketed under the Havelock Towers name.
