Historisches Kaufhaus

The Historisches Kaufhaus on Münsterplatz, built in 1520, is Freiburg's most traditional address for representative events. Operated by Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe (FWTM), which also runs the Konzerthaus, its carefully restored rooms are let for congresses, conferences, lectures, receptions, galas and concerts; local ensembles such as the Camerata Instrumentale Freiburg praise the Kaisersaal's acoustics. The Kaisersaal (270 m²) seats up to 290 in rows and holds 350 for a standing reception. The Rokokosaal (72 m²) and the Kaminsaal (69 m², with an open fireplace and direct access to the inner courtyard) suit smaller groups, breakout sessions and catering; there is also a Historische Stube and the courtyard itself. Because of its historic architecture the house is only partly accessible: wheelchair users reach it by the lift in the cobbled courtyard with staff assistance, and the Rokokosaal and Kaminsaal are not step-free.
