JURET i Vika

JURET is a small cultural bar on Vikaterrassen at Ruseløkkveien 3, on Oslo's lower west side. It bills itself as the city's smallest jazz bar and means it literally: the room seats a couple of dozen people, the stage is a corner of the floor, and the audience sits close enough to the musicians to hear them breathe. When nothing is being played live, the music comes off the bar's vinyl player. The programme leans towards the freer, more exploratory side of Norwegian jazz, and JURET has become an important early stage for young musicians — more than 300 concerts in its first three years. It also works with Oslo Jazzfestival, which has run whole multi-day series of concerts here. The bar serves natural wine and beer, and is open Wednesday to Saturday from 15:00 to 01:00.
