Karmøy kulturhus

Karmøy municipality's cultural centre in Åkrehamn, in the former town hall, with a 200-seat main hall built around a retractable amphitheatre plus a small hall and loft rooms. It also houses the municipal music school, a library branch and a ceremonial room, and everything is available for hire.

About this venue

Karmøy kulturhus occupies the former town hall at Rådhusvegen 71 in Åkrehamn on the island of Karmøy, and is run by Karmøy municipality. The main room, Storsalen, is a flexible hall with a stage and a retractable amphitheatre seating around 200 people; it is used for concerts, theatre, revues and public meetings, and the seating can be pushed back to open the floor for flat-floor events, fairs and exhibitions. Beyond the main hall the building has Lillesalen in the basement at the south end, two loft rooms (Loft nord and Loft sør) used for meetings and courses, and a rehearsal room set up for bands. Karmøy kulturskole has its offices and practice rooms here, a branch of the municipal library is in the building, and there is a dedicated ceremonial room used for civil weddings and secular funerals. The Down Under youth club also runs its activities from the house. All the rooms are hired out to organisations, groups and private individuals — for rehearsals and concerts as much as for confirmations, christenings, weddings, funerals, flea markets and exhibitions. Bookings go through the municipality's Bookup portal, and tickets for the house's own events are sold via TicketCo.
