About this venue

The Komödie im Marquardt opened on 1 September 1951 in the Golden Hall of the former Hotel Marquardt, when the post-war Junge Theater Kollektiv moved there from a vocational school on Rotebühlstraße. Housed in the listed Marquardtbau opposite Schlossplatz, it became Stuttgart's boulevard theatre and drew post-war stars such as Heinz Erhardt, Conny Froboess and Harald Juhnke. Its programme covers the full range of upscale popular theatre: contemporary comedies, Swabian dialect plays, classic comedies, musical productions and comedy evenings, plus a family play at Christmas. Together with the Altes Schauspielhaus it forms the Schauspielbühnen in Stuttgart, led since August 2018 by Axel Preuß. The 378-seat house plays daily except Mondays from September to July, and every seat has a good view of the stage.
