About this venue
The Little Theatre stands on Saltwell View beside Saltwell Park, and is Gateshead's only theatre. It opened on 13 October 1943 with A Midsummer Night's Dream and is the permanent home of the Progressive Players, an amateur company founded in 1920.
The auditorium seats about 185. The company stages ten productions a year and the building also hosts concerts and other community events. It is run entirely by volunteers.
