About this venue

The New Vic is a purpose-built theatre-in-the-round on Etruria Road in Newcastle-under-Lyme, run by the Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire Theatre Trust (a registered charity). It grew out of the Victoria Theatre company, which opened in a converted cinema in Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, in October 1962 under Peter Cheeseman; after a local appeal raised over £1 million, the New Vic opened in August 1986. The theatre produces its own drama in the round and also hosts a programme of visiting shows: the autumn 2026 season includes jazz (a John Coltrane "A Love Supreme" tribute, Jazz Sabbath), folk and singer-songwriter concerts (Lindisfarne, Briana Corrigan, a Joni Mitchell celebration), rock and roll tribute shows, comedy (Jack Dee, a Black History Month comedy special) and Indian classical dance. As built, the auditorium seated about 600 around a central stage, with five rows, a set of boxes and a two-row balcony. Access: ramped access to the auditorium, accessible toilets on the ground and first floors, a lift from the foyer, dedicated wheelchair spaces in row G, an induction loop and assisted hearing system, and assistance dogs welcome. The balcony is not wheelchair accessible.
