Nordic Church and Cultural Centre
Grade II* former Scandinavian seamen's church on Park Lane, run as a Nordic cultural centre hosting concerts and community events.
About this venue
The Nordic Church and Cultural Centre occupies Gustaf Adolf Kyrka at 138 Park Lane, one of only four octagonal churches in England and a Grade II* listed building. It was designed by W.D. Caroe and completed in 1884 as a place of worship for Scandinavian seamen and, later, for the thousands of Scandinavian emigrants passing through Liverpool on their way to North America.
The building is run by Liverpool International Nordic Community, a registered charity (number 1152041) that has been based here for about a decade. Its own concert series brings classical recitals into the church — a recent bill was a solo piano recital given as part of Mike and Jon's Concert Series, with tickets sold in advance or on the door. Around the concerts the centre runs a Nordic calendar of Midsummer and Lucia celebrations, a Christmas bazaar and Christmas Eve service, alongside a Finnish school, Norwegian and Finnish language classes, a handicraft and knitting group, the Linnea group, a weekly coffee morning and communion services.
No capacity figure and no room-hire tariff are published for the building, so none is recorded here; enquiries go to the centre's general address.
