About this venue

Ørsta kulturhus is the municipal culture house on Holmegata in central Ørsta, combining a cinema and stage, a function hall and the town's public library. It is run by Ørsta municipality and programmes first-run film several days a week alongside a live season of touring theatre, concerts and comedy — Teatret Vårt's Fanny og Alexander and Pinocchio, Steinar Raknes & Unni Wilhelmsen, Nordic Tenors and the stand-up show Tuva & Ronny are among the 2026 bookings. It is also a listed touring venue for Riksteatret, the Norwegian state touring theatre. The main Kinosal seats 302. Its stage is 9 m deep with an 11.5 m proscenium and 16 m total width, with level access straight onto the stage from the rear through a 145 x 210 cm sliding door and a lift-adapted ramp. The house PA is a MeyerSound rig (UPA tops and UPW subs on Crown amplification, DBX controller, Yamaha 01V96 desk, permanently installed multicore), with a Proel dimmer rack of 18 channels feeding Fresnels and PAR64s. Dressing rooms comprise a 30 m² green room and three dressing rooms with showers and WCs. The Festsal is a flat-floor function room of 22 x 14 m with a 7 x 4 m stage, 252 chairs and 50 tables, and a sound system installed in 2019. Two local clubs, Ørsta ungdomslag and the rifle club, hold parts of the basement. The building's life is now measured: Ørsta municipality confirmed in August 2026 that the library closes on 7 September 2026 and moves temporarily to Ørstahallen, and that Saturday 7 November 2026 is the final opening day for the culture house and cinema. The building is then demolished over the winter to make way for the new Ørsta kompetanse- og kultursenter (ØKKS), which will house a cinema, library and upper-secondary school and is expected to be finished around the turn of 2028–2029. The municipality has said it will have no cinema or culture-house provision of its own during the construction period.

Stage 9 m deep, 11.5 m proscenium opening, 16 m total stage width, with level access onto the stage from the rear through a 145 x 210 cm sliding door and a lift-adapted ramp. House PA is MeyerSound UPA tops and UPW subs on Crown amplifiers with a DBX controller and Yamaha 01V96 desk; lighting is an 18-channel Proel dimmer rack feeding Fresnels and PAR64s.
