About this venue
The Pleasance is a complex of University of Edinburgh buildings on the street of the same name in Edinburgh's Old Town. For nine months of the year it runs as a students' association societies centre, sports complex, union bar and entertainment venue, with its bars and performance rooms open to the public without student identification.
Its main spaces are the Pleasance Theatre, a 299-seat house known as Pleasance One during the Fringe, the 170-capacity Cabaret Bar, the 750-capacity Pleasance Grand in the sports centre and the 46-seat Cellar, alongside the Pleasance Bar. The Cabaret Bar and Theatre programme live music, comedy, spoken word and poetry through the year, including the Pleasance Sessions festival.
Every August the site is taken over as one of the largest venues of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, when it is branded the Pleasance Courtyard.
