QUARRY is a 250-capacity DIY music venue in Liverpool, run by the community-interest company Quarry Sound CIC. It opened in February 2020 beneath a disused railway arch at 17 Love Lane and moved in September 2025 to 45 Hardman Street, a building steeped in the city's musical history as the former premises of The Sink Club and The Magnet, after the Love Lane land was sold for redevelopment.
It is run by a small collective of promoters, sound engineers and gig-goers with no corporate backing, and the programme is built around alternative, experimental and forward-thinking music that would struggle to find a stage elsewhere, alongside national and international touring artists. Acts who have played QUARRY include Xiu Xiu, Lydia Lunch, Jane Weaver, Pharmakon, Big Joanie, DJ Haram, YHWH Nailgun, Prostitute, Memorials, Westside Cowboy and Shallowater. The venue also runs a recording studio and works as a multimedia arts space, and keeps ticket prices deliberately low.
The venue is in the basement and is split into two areas: the live room, and a bar area with seating. It is built around a well-maintained d and b C-Series PA in an acoustically treated live room. Events are primarily standing, though the live room has built-in bleacher-style seating to the right of the stage, where sightlines can be partly obscured when busy.
Access: there are 15 steps down from street level to the bar, with a handrail on both sides, and a further 5 steps down into the live room, so the venue is not step-free. There is no accessible toilet on site - the venue names the Philharmonic pub at 36 Hope Street as the nearest with level access - and both toilets are mixed and non-gendered. Free companion and carer tickets are available on request, assistance dogs are allowed although sound levels may not suit them, and free ear protection is always available at the bar. Flashing and strobe lighting and haze are used regularly. Pay-and-display parking surrounds the venue, the Liverpool Philharmonic car park is the nearest, and Blue Badge holders park free all day in on-street bays on Hardman Street and Hope Street.
