About this venue
The Rivoli Ballroom is the only intact 1950s ballroom remaining in London. Grade II listed in 2007, it opened in 1913 as the Crofton Park Picture Palace cinema, was renamed the Rivoli Cinema in 1929, and was converted into a dance hall in a 1957-59 refit that added its Canadian sprung maple floor; it reopened as a ballroom on Boxing Day 1959. Famed for its original red velour and gilt decor, chandeliers and Chinese lanterns, it is a frequent film and music-video location (Tina Turner's "Private Dancer", Elton John's "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues") and has hosted acts including Florence + the Machine. It was run by Bill Mannix for over 40 years until his death in August 2025, and continues as a family enterprise under his granddaughter Jayne Williams, hosting jive, rock 'n' roll and swing nights alongside private hire.
