About this venue

SALT began in 2014 as an art project on Sandhornøya in northern Norway, built around the fiskehjell — the triangular timber rack traditionally used along the northern coast to dry fish. The structures are deliberately temporary and movable, and SALT carries that philosophy into the city: since 2016 the village has stood on Langkaia in central Oslo, on the water between the Opera House and the Munch museum. The site is part sauna village, part culture venue. Twelve saunas and 21 cold pools host rituals every day; at the heart of the village is Árdna, one of the world's largest saunas, which turns into a bar with DJs at weekends, while Skroget runs steam rituals led by SALT's own sauna masters and a set of century-old aquavit barrels have been converted into small private saunas. SALT won a World Sauna Award in 2024 and Oslo bys kunstnerpris in 2021. An outdoor fire-pit restaurant runs year-round. The venue is hired for concerts, conferences, launches, company parties and private celebrations, from intimate rooms up to festival layouts of 2,000 across the indoor rooms, covered and open outdoor areas and terraces. Clients have included IKEA, Lyko, VG and HBO film launches. The house owns a full PA and backline, with technicians, extra staging and equipment hired in as needed. Den Arktiske Hovedscene is the largest stage: 4.5 m deep by 8 m wide with a 3 × 8 m backstage, a 100 cm stage height with railing, a Midas M32 Live desk, a Vue AL-8 line array four boxes a side with four HS28 subs, A12 delays and H10 frontfill, Chamsys QuickQ 20 lighting control and a 15,000-lumen Epson projector onto a fixed 4 × 4 m screen. Langhuset has a 4 × 6 m stage at 100 cm, an Allen & Heath SQ6, the same Vue line array with AS-418 subs, ETC ColourSource control and Martin MAC Aura moving lights. Pyramiden plays flat-floor in front of an amphitheatre with a Midas M32 and Turbosound iQ system, and Bazaar has a 3 × 4 m stage at 40 cm with a Midas Venice F32. Shared backline covers Fender and Vox guitar amps, an Ampeg bass rig, a Ludwig Centennial kit, a Yamaha CP300, three Pioneer XDJ setups with PLX-1000 turntables, and a large microphone and monitor stock. ID is checked from 20 years on the site after 19:00, with separate age limits for the sauna area, concerts and shows. Sauna sessions run from 07:00 on weekday mornings; bar service runs 11:00–22:00, to 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Bålplassen

Outdoor fire pits

The year-round outdoor fire-pit restaurant, where guests grill Nordic tapas boxes — lamb, chicken or Røros reindeer sausage, cheeses from Jæren to Lofoten, and a dessert box with brown cheese and marshmallows. Groups of under six share a fire with others.

Pyramiden

Amphitheatre

A stepped amphitheatre room with a 3 m × 4 m flat-floor stage in front of the seating, a Midas M32 Live with DL32 stage rack, Turbosound iQ12 tops and iQ15B subs, ETC ColourSource20 lighting control with LED pars, fresnels and Eclipse profiles, and an Optoma projector onto a 6 × 4 m screen.

Árdna

Sauna stage

One of the world's largest saunas and the heart of the village, doubling as a performance room with a bar and DJs at weekends. Stage 1.5 m deep × 7 m wide, flat floor in front of the amphitheatre, with a Fohhn AT-221w system built into the amphitheatre sides, a separate Fohhn PA in the bar area and an Epson projector onto a 240 × 240 cm motorised screen.

Cabin

SALT's smallest café, built from driftwood and other finds from the shoreline — intimate and used for private dinners and small shows. Stage floor about 2 × 3 m, Alto 1202 mixer, Fohhn LX-100 tops with an XS 10 sub, four PAR16 pinspots and a 55" screen.
