About this venue
Scarth Memorial Hall, known locally as Scarth Hall, is the village hall of Staindrop in County Durham. Built in 1875 and substantially improved in 2016, it belongs to the people of Staindrop and the surrounding area and is run mostly by volunteers as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (no. 1176610).
The main hall has a wooden floor and a stage, with surround sound, cinema projection and stage lighting, and seats 122 theatre-style or about 70 cabaret-style. There is also a bistro area for up to 28, two upstairs meeting rooms reached by stairs or stairlift (the Joe Hodgson Room and a training room), and a commercial-grade kitchen; the whole building holds no more than 150. A licensed, staffed bar may be available for events, and there is ramp access and wi-fi.
The hall runs its own programme of concerts, from 1960s pop and soul tributes to swing jazz and acoustic blues, alongside illustrated talks, a monthly open-mic night and a quiz. Rooms are let by the hour to community groups, private hirers and businesses; tickets are sold through TicketSource and Staindrop Post Office.
