About this venue

The Seebühne is the open-air stage on the Schönfelder Märchenteich, a pond in Park Schönfeld in Kassel. It is the home of the Brüder Grimm Festival Kassel, a summer theatre festival for families held since 2008 during the Hessian school summer holidays and run by the Brüder Grimm Festival Kassel e.V. Each year the festival produces its own musical based on a Grimm fairy tale, with live music, alongside a children's theatre programme on the meadow or in a theatre tent. The 2026 season, the festival's 19th, ran from 2 July to 9 August with the musical "Von einer, die auszog, das Fürchten zu lernen" on Wednesday to Sunday evenings and weekend afternoons, preceded by a fairy-tale day for families on 28 June. Diary note: the stage is used only during the summer festival season; outside it there is no programme.
