About this venue

Start-Yard is a creative workspace and event venue at 108 Church Street in central Birkenhead, converted from a 16,000 sq ft former Cammell Laird motor transport depot into a container village of studios and office pods beside the Mersey.

Alongside the workspace it runs its own events programme - DJ nights, art shows, live music and local pop-ups, including the Art After Dark creative night on Birkenhead high street and the Sofa Sounds live sessions - and hires the site out for private dining, mini conferences, private screenings, product launches, exhibitions and parties. The industrial backdrop and flexible layouts are what the operator sells it on.

Two named meeting rooms are let separately: PowWow, for one-to-ones, small team sessions and focused workshops, and TING, for larger presentations and filming, which can open up into the cafe area for events and parties. Both can be set up U-shape, in seated rows, classroom style and other formations. No capacities are published for either room or for the site as a whole, so none are listed here. The ME+NU cafe bar trades on site Monday to Friday from 9am to 3.30pm, and tenants and visitors also have bike parking, showers and high-speed Wi-Fi.
