Studio Bergen

Carte Blanche is the Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance, founded in Bergen in 1989. Based at Studio Bergen in Nøstegaten – which serves as both production facility and home stage – the company produces two to three new works each season in collaboration with emerging and established choreographers, and tours extensively across Norway and internationally. Its international ensemble numbers around 14 dancers. Carte Blanche is owned and funded jointly by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, Vestland County Council and the City of Bergen, and describes its mission as being a forerunner for innovation, presentation and development of contemporary dance.In 2026/2027 the company is relocating to a new home, Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus, shared with Bergen Internasjonale Teater (BIT), with an official opening planned for 4 March 2027.
