About this venue
Teviot Row House is the students' union building on Bristo Square in Edinburgh, run by the Edinburgh University Students' Association and owned by the University of Edinburgh. Completed in 1889 to designs by Sydney Mitchell & Wilson and extended in 1902-05 and 1962, it is the world's oldest purpose-built student union and is Category B listed.
The building holds six bars — including the Library Bar, the New Amphion, the Lounge Bar, the Loft Bar with its roof terrace and the Sports Bar — plus the Debating Hall, the Dining Room and the Underground, a 250-capacity basement club used for live music, club nights and cabaret. Teviot reopened in March 2026 after a two-and-a-half year renovation covering its bars, layout, lighting, accessibility and the restoration of the Debating Hall's stained glass. During the Edinburgh Festival Fringe it is converted into a major multi-space Fringe venue.
