The Abbeydale Picture House

A Grade II listed 1920 "picture palace" cinema on Abbeydale Road, once Sheffield's largest and most luxurious cinema (seating up to 1,560), which closed in 1975 and stood empty for decades before a long restoration effort. Since 2017 it has been leased to CADS, a Sheffield arts charity, which reopened the building's "Fly Tower" as an events space alongside a bar and creative studios for hire, hosting music, theatre, comedy and community arts events. The building's roof and ceiling have suffered serious deterioration — it was added to the Theatres at Risk register in 2024 after safety concerns forced the closure of parts of the auditorium — and ownership passed to hospitality company True North Brew Co in January 2025, which has separately opened Abbeydale Ballroom in the basement.
