About this venue

The Black Prince is a public house and live-music venue at 15 Abington Square, Northampton. A pub has stood on the site since 1897, and the building traded as The Racehorse before taking its current name in 2016. Bands have played here since the 1960s. Over the years the stage has hosted Feeder, Reef, Enter Shikari and You Me At Six, and more recently The Bluetones, The Subways, The Lovely Eggs, slowthai and Raging Speedhorn. The current programme mixes touring indie, rock, punk and metal bands with local acts, DJs, tribute nights, record fairs and craft markets. The building has a front bar, a music venue room with a capacity of 250 (240 sellable) and a beer garden with a Garden Stage used from May to September for pared-down acts. The venue does not book acts for the room itself; instead it is hired out, and basic hire includes a sound engineer, a lighting engineer, use of the PA, door security and bar staff. The stage is about 5.4 m wide and 4.2 m deep. The PA is L-Acoustics with X32 desks, and guitar and bass cabinets are provided. A green room may be available. The venue is 16+ after 7pm, and live music has an 11pm curfew Monday to Saturday (10pm on Sunday).
