The Common Room of the Great North occupies Neville Hall on Westgate Road, the Victorian home of the North of England Institute of Mining & Mechanical Engineers. The charity behind it led a major conservation project and reopened the building to the public in 2021 as a place to explore the region's engineering heritage.
Six spaces across three floors are available for hire, or the whole building for up to 325 guests. The grandest is the Wood Hall, a galleried Victorian library with a glass vaulted ceiling and stained glass. There is also an Edwardian tiered lecture theatre, and the 5|Quarter cafe bar on the ground floor.
