The King's Hall is a locally listed Edwardian hall of 1913 on the seafront at Beacon Hill, Herne Bay, owned and run by Canterbury City Council. Its grand hall has taken concerts, charity balls, boxing, dance competitions and dinners, and the building also has a bar, a tea room, five dressing rooms and a rooftop bandstand.
The hall closed to events on 31 May 2026 ahead of a two million pound refurbishment covering mechanical and electrical repairs, weatherproofing and fire and safety compliance, with accessibility and heritage improvements subject to budget. The council put the works at about eighteen months with completion expected in 2028, and has announced no date for events to resume. The foyer, internal toilets and the Scoops ice cream unit stayed open through the summer.
Grand hall
The operator's own hire page gives the main hall a "capacity just under 500 seated or 600 standing". Only the standing figure is recorded, because "just under 500" is not a stated number; the bar is given as approximately 80 and is not recorded as a space for the same reason. Figures pre-date the 2026 refurbishment.
