Lowther Pavilion
The only theatre in the Fylde, presenting comedy, music, pantomime and amateur productions in a 457-seat auditorium within Lowther Gardens.
About this venue
Lowther Pavilion is a theatre in Lowther Gardens, Lytham St Annes, built as a flat-floored wooden pavilion by Fylde Borough Council in 1921. Bands including Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy, Hawkwind and Jethro Tull played there in the 1960s and 70s, but by the 1970s the building was in decline and demolition was discussed before the council chose to rebuild it in brick; it reopened as a proper theatre in 1982 and became a charitable trust in 2007.
The main auditorium seats 457. In April 2025 a new Windmill Performance and Education Centre opened alongside it, adding the Chapman Studio (named for Fylde coast impresario Duggie Chapman) plus a community space and outdoor classroom. The venue hosts a year-round mixed programme of professional and amateur theatre, comedy, concerts, pantomime and community events, and is used by local societies and touring companies.
